A new report from Thailand suggests that plans are in place to mass-produce a fully electric Toyota Hilux.
Toyota Thailand president Noriaki Yamashita told reporters of the news at the Bangkok International Motor Show and added that the model could be released as early as 2025, reports Reuters.
As for what to expect, the Hilux EV will likely follow in the footsteps of the Revo BEV Concept we first saw in 2022 and later underwent testing in Australia.
However, the concept’s technical specifications are still under wraps, thus leaving us in the dark regarding the battery capacity and power output of the potential production version.
If the Hilux EV is to be mass-produced, it’ll go toe-to-toe with the new electric Isuzu D-Max that was revealed last week, the latter of which will likely go on sale in New Zealand in 2025.
Toyota will also launch a mild-hybrid Hilux locally later this year, bringing with it the familiar 2.8-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder and six-speed automatic gearbox, joined by a 48V electric motor generator and lithium-ion battery.
