A tractor trailer unit belonging to a Porsche race shop in Florida has gone missing. It contained about $US1.5 million worth of Porsche race cars and gear.
Thieves evidently targeted the race shop in South Florida. They drove off with the tractor trailer that contained four race cars, parts and other gear. Law enforcement recovered the tractor unit but the trailer and the cars are still missing, according to a local news report.
The theft took place around 3am last Sunday morning. The tractor trailer was parked at Rennsport-One, Pompano Beach, Florida. Business owner, Justin Bellinzoni, said that surveillance video showed two people driving into the parking lot. Twenty minutes later someone drove the tractor trailer unit containing the Porsches off the lot.
One of the cars stolen is probably a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Rennsport-One runs in it in the GT4-spec SRO and IMSA competition. The vehicle is worth roughly $US200,000. What else was onboard is unclear but if there were four race cars and associated gear then the claim of $1.5m seems credible.
Bellinzoni hired a private investigator to search for the trailer by plane. Despite the unit having a GPS tracker, the whereabouts of the stolen goods remains unclear.
The owner of the facility is promising a large reward for information that leads to the recovery of the trailer and its contents.
