Waka Kotahi (New Zealand Transport Agency) has revoked the warrant of fitness (WOF) on over 900 vehicles after an Auckland man issued them without the correct certification.
Stuff reported that the man has been charged with dishonesty offences after an investigation found he had been issuing the WOFs from October 2021 to April 2022.
In that time, the man had issued 903 vehicles with WOFs which Waka Kotahi has now revoked.
He appeared in court earlier this month and is said to reappear at a later date.
A spokesperson for Waka Kotahi has said the agency isn’t legally liable for the costs involved with obtaining a new WOF.
That means customers will have to pay for a new warrant but a spokesperson for the mechanic said “some people have been coming back and we’ve been sorting it out for them” reports Stuff.
