Shane van Gisbergen has had to cut his day of testing at Queensland Raceway short after crashing hard at Turn 6, burying his Gen3 Supercar deep in the tyre barrier.
Triple Eight Race Engineering is advising the crash was caused by a brake failure resulting in a loss of pressure. Race control reported fluid on the track following the incident.
Van Gisbergen was able to extract himself from the vehicle through the passenger door and was seen standing near the car as it was recovered.
From images shared by Red Bull Ampol Racing, the car appears to have suffered significant damage and is on its way back to Triple Eight’s workshop.
The incident puts the team on the back foot ahead of next weekend’s Sandown 500, where van Gisbergen will share the #97 Camaro with compatriot Richie Stanaway.
