Kia has provided a first look at the highly anticipated EV4 sedan in New Zealand, showcasing a right-hand-drive pre-production model just weeks after its global reveal.
The EV4, Kia’s first dedicated electric sedan, will arrive exclusively as a sedan variant in New Zealand, with the hatchback version ruled out due to production constraints. Built in Korea, the sedan will offer two battery options: a 51.8 kWh NMC battery and a long-range 81 kWh NMC battery. Thanks to its aerodynamic shape, the larger battery delivers an impressive WLTP-rated range of up to 630km.
Although positioned as a C-segment vehicle akin to the Toyota Corolla, the EV4’s spacious interior aligns it more closely with mid-size sedans such as the Tesla Model 3.
Sedan with a hint of SUV

The EV4 features distinctive vertical front LED lights, pop-out door handles, and prominent black body cladding, giving it a slightly elevated, SUV-inspired aesthetic despite its sedan body style.
At the rear, the EV4 features an elongated tail design reminiscent of the Deepal EU7 concept vehicle. Boot capacity is a generous 490 litres, although the sedan configuration means access may be slightly limited compared to liftback designs.
Despite this, we think the EV4 could comfortably accommodate two or three large suitcases, positioning it as a strong candidate for fleet use or ride-sharing services.
Competitive charging
Charging speeds for the EV4 are competitive, though not groundbreaking, with peak DC charging rates between 100 to 120 kW, thanks to the car’s 400-volt architecture. Kia estimates a 10-80% battery charge can be achieved in approximately 30 minutes.

Inside, the EV4 boasts an eco-conscious cabin featuring recycled and bio-based materials. A 29-inch panoramic display combines instrumentation, infotainment, and HVAC controls, paired with tactile climate control switches. Premium touches include plush seating, wireless phone charging, and powerful 100-watt USB ports.
Rear passenger space is decent, although headroom may feel limited for taller occupants due to the optional sunroof. A glass roof option without a sliding sunroof may improve headroom significantly.
The Kia EV4 is expected to arrive in New Zealand dealerships by late 2025, with final local specifications and pricing to be confirmed closer to launch.
