Vietnamese carmaker VinFast has revealed the fully electric VF3, a pocket-sized Suzuki Jimny lookalike that will only be sold in its home market.
While the compact car may look like it was made to go off-road, the VF3’s purpose is to act as a car for the Vietnamese people, with its creator wanting it to become the country’s new ‘national vehicle’.
Measuring in at 3114mm in length, you’ll be surprised to know there’s enough space inside for five people and yet there’s still room for the shopping in the boot. Underneath is a set of 16-inch wheels which support its tall appearance and help give it a forgiving ground clearance.
It’s design feels familiar, with the front grille possessing a similar shape to the one found on the Jimny. There are differences though, with the headlights adopting a rectangular shape and the black plastic bumper being integrated into the arches.
The rear end is also fairly unique with a similarly-shaped garnish to the grille spanning the width of the vehicle.
Much of the interior has been kept minimal in order to maximise space for occupants. However, the VF3 has been equipped with “basic smart features” according to the carmaker.
Technical information regarding its electric drivetrain has been kept quiet for now but it’ll likely be fitted with a single motor. As for the battery, VinFast says it’ll offer an “impressive” travel distance.
Two trim levels will be available when the VinFast VF3 launches in the third quarter of 2023, dubbed Eco and Plus.
