Design sketches of Volkswagen’s ID Aero concept have been released, giving us a glimpse of the new production saloon set to join the ID electric vehicle family.
The pre-production study incorporates swooping lines with the “unmistakable design language of the ID family” by giving it an aerodynamic front and swooping roofline.
This helps the ID Aero reduce energy consumption and increase range giving it an efficiency advantage over its SUV siblings.
Volkswagen’s new limousine will be based on their Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) which is currently shared by other ID vehicles like the ID.3 and ID.4, as well as the Audi Q4 and Q5 e-tron SUVs.
The ID Aero will be VW’s first fully-electric limousine for the Chinese market expected to go on sale in the second half of 2023. North America and Europe will get a corresponding model set to be revealed in 2023 as well.
It’s expected that Volkswagen’s new saloon will go up against rival EVs like the Tesla Model 3.
