It seems that the only way is down for the prices of Volkswagen’s all-electric ID range, with the local arm of the brand slashing its prices once again.
Kiwis can now get their hands on the ID.4 Pro for $59,990, which is less than it would’ve cost at the end of last year when it was first discounted and with the Clean Car Discount rebate applied.
The new price for the electric SUV is $20,000 less than what the model was initially sold for when it was introduced in 2022, that being $79,990.
As for the ID.5 Pro, its price has now dropped to $67,490, while the top-of-the-range ID.5 Pro+ remains at $88,490.
Like other electric car retailers, we suspect Volkswagen is under the pump to shift its remaining stock, especially now that the Clean Car Discount is no longer in effect.
Since the axing of the fee and rebate scheme at the end of 2023, sales of EVs have come crashing down based on new car registration data from the Motor Industry Association (MIA).
In January 2024, just three per cent of new vehicles that were registered in New Zealand were electric, ten per cent less than the same month last year.
