The next generation of the Volkswagen Transporter is upon us, with the German carmaker today teasing the new Ford Transit-based model.
Shown alongside the more civilian ID.Buzz and Multivan, the new Transporter will solely be focussed on commercial customers.
From the teaser video, we understand the incoming model will be available in five different body styles, including a panel van, high roof, dual-cab pick-up, and two different glass side window versions.
Considering the new Transporter is based on the Transit, it’ll come fitted with the same powertrains of which four different versions will be offered. These include a turbo-diesel (TDI), an all-wheel drive (TDI 4Motion) variant, a hybrid (eHybrid), and a fully electric (e-Transporter) version.
The seventh generation model’s design is still under wraps but camouflaged shots show that it’ll closely follow that of the Ford, with the main differences being restyled front and rear ends, including different headlights and taillights.
Looking at the model from the side, its overall shape is almost identical to the Transit’s, meaning it’ll likely boast similar if not the same dimensions and specifications.
This isn’t the first time Volkswagen and Ford have collaborated on a vehicle together, as you may know, the Amarok shares the same platform as the Ranger, while the Caddy is based on the Transit Connect.
Ford also announced it will soon launch a new fully electric Explorer in Europe based on VW’s MEB architecture which underpins the ID.4 and ID.5.
The 2024 Volkswagen Transporter will be launched in Europe in the Spring of next year, or our Autumn.
