Waka Kotahi has updated its vehicle safety ratings for 2023, affecting which vehicles are eligible for a Clean Car Discount (CCD).
An alert issued by the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Assosiation (VIA) highlights that information about crash avoidance features is now included for used imports which was once only available for New Zealand new vehicles.
A vehicle must also have a rating of three stars or more in order to be eligible for a CCD.
For example, vehicles such as the 2005 to 2011 Toyota Vitz and Yaris no longer qualify.
VIA is reminding vehicle importers to check if a CCD can be applied to a vehicle through the Rightcar’s vehicle safety and emissions lookup tool under ‘dealer resources’.
Safety ratings are updated annually based off data from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), Used Car Safety Ratings (UCSR), and Vehicle Safety Risk Ratings (VSRR).
This means CCD eligibility for new and used vehicles will change again in 2024.
