With the 2023 Supercars Championship drawing to a close at this weekend’s VAILO Adelaide 500, so too will Kiwi racing driver Shane van Gisbergen’s time in the series as he makes the switch to NASCAR in the United States next year.
To farewell SVG, Red Bull Ampol Racing has put together a highlights video that takes us back through his incredible journey with the team.
Van Gisbergen first appeared behind the wheel of a Supercar at Oran Park Raceway in 2007, where he kicked off an 81-race win career, with three of those being Bathurst 1000 victories, and three championship title wins.
There’s a chance the Kiwi could pick up a fourth title in this weekend’s VAILO Adelaide 500, as he currently sits 131 points behind championship leader Brodie Kostecki.
In 2024, he will head stateside for a stint in the NASCAR Truck Series, Xfinity Series, and Cup Series as part of a development programme with Trackhouse Racing.
“I’m so thankful to everyone who has played a role in my career so far, especially Triple Eight Race Engineering, and looking forward to finishing our year with a few more highlights,” van Gisbergen said when he signed with the American team.
“It is time for a new challenge, and this adventure into NASCAR will be the biggest challenge of my career and one I’m really looking forward to.”
With that being said, it’s time to take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of Shane van Gisbergen’s best moments on and off the track in Supercars.
