For 2024, Triumph is introducing a base model X, along with a better specified XE variant to bookend the Scrambler 1200 range.
The new X version delivers the same core capabilities, with an elevated riding position, torque-rich performance and decent spec and tech at a more affordable price. It has a seat height of 820mm, though one of 795mm is available. The 16,000km service intervals help to reduce overall cost of ownership.
The Scrambler 1200 XE meantime gets the latest-generation Brembo Stylema calipers, updated Marzocchi suspension (with 250mm of travel and full adjustability) and improved touring capability (with high screen and rugged luggage system).
The Scrambler 1200 X comes with new Marzocchi suspension as well, consisting of 45mm USD forks and rear suspension units with piggyback reservoirs and preload adjustability. There’s said to be 170mm of wheel travel and this model is optimised more for road riding, like the XC.
Advanced rider technology comprises enhanced cornering ABS and switchable cornering traction control. Other items include an integrated TFT display, five ride modes, full LED lighting, USB charging and turn-by-turn navigation.
Both use the 1200cc Bonneville twin engine sporting a new single 50mm throttle body and revised exhaust headers, for better torque from 5000rpm through to the redline. Peak power arrives a little earlier (90PS at 7000rpm), and so too peak torque of 110Nm occurring at 4250rpm. Both variants have the same frame and side-laced stainless steel wire spoked wheels with lightweight aluminium rims.
The XE has 65mm wider handlebars than the X for greater control in off-road riding. Its handlebars are also adjustable, as are foot controls. Both use a twin-sided aluminium swingarm, the XE’s being 32mm longer.
The X variant wears dual-purpose Metzler Karoo Street tyres, while the XE variant runs on Metzeler Tourance rubber. Michelin Anakee Wild is an option for off-road oriented action. Brakes on the X variant have twin 310mm floating front discs, with Nissin twin-piston axial calipers. The rear features a 255mm disc and a Nissin floating brake caliper. The brake lever is span adjustable on both models.
Five rider modes are available for the Scrambler 1200 X (Sport, Road, Rain, Off-Road and Rider Configurable), while the XE adds Off-Road Pro. Both variants have a torque assist clutch.
The Scrambler 1200 XE has customisable full colour TFT instruments while 1200 X gets a dedicated hybrid multifunction LCD/TFT display in a circular instrument.
Both come with the Scrambler’s high-level twin exhaust design and sculpted fuel tank. They each feature a one-piece ribbed bench seat, in black for the XE and brown for the X.
Other items include sculpted side panels with a brushed aluminium Scrambler 1200 badge and Monza-style filler cap. The XE gets brushed aluminium mudguards, while the X features painted items. Both come in black or grey livery, while the XE can be had in orange and the 1200 X in red.
More than 70 accessories are available to bring an even greater touring capability. Pricing and full specifications will be available closer to local launch.
